December 2023 Freight Class Changes

The NMFTA has released updated the latest NMFC updates that will impact LTL shipments with an effective date of December 2, 2023. Below are a few examples of the NMFC changes.

Overview of NMFC Changes
Seven generic headings will be streamlined. These include:
  • Barrels
  • Burial case
  • Foodstuffs
  • Grain products
  • Safes or Safe or Vault Parts, Fire or Burglar Proof
  • Wallboard
  • Washers; gaskets; or packing devices, forms or shapes other than packaging
The NMFTA has taken steps to streamline freight class by consolidating or shrinking all the categories mentioned above.

In addition, certain provisions have been modified for the sake of simplicity, though they have not been consolidated or shrunk. These include:
  • Chairs, electric or mechanical with or without hydraulic or power operational basis
  • Hammocks
  • Incinerators
  • Rubber floor mats
  • Synthetic fiber paper or paper board
  • Tank-type water heaters

One key aspect of the classification overhaul involves merging similar items whenever possible.

Please note that these changes do not originate from MyCarrier, but directly from the Freight Class Development Council.
